It’s so hard to lose a beloved pet. We know them in all their sweetness and their antics, their habits and the many ways they habituate to ours without discussion. Sharon loved “Frosty”, her companion for more than a decade, and now missed him terribly. She had searched online trying to find art that could memorialize her beloved cat. When she remembered Chris Nordin’s work, she decided that he was the only artist she could trust with this creative project. She knew he would make it a personalized process. Sharon, like so many people around the world, had come to know Chris through his family’s online live glass-blowing show every Tuesday on FaceBook [link] and YouTube [link].
During the consultation, she found Chris easy to talk to. He listened to Sharon talk about Frosty, his personality, his relationship with his littermate, “Ringo”, and his importance in her life. Chris paused with her when the tears were caught in her throat. He then reverently removed the cremation remains he would need to encase in the sculpture.
When they spoke about the design, Sharon knew that she wanted a stylized depiction of Frosty. She knew the colors she wanted and the size. She says that the finished sculpture was exactly what she wanted to memorialize Frosty.
Sharon remembers with gratitude that respect came with the memorial sculpture and throughout the whole process.
“Chris is wonderful…I can’t say enough good things about him!”
